No display light, no HD spin-up, no startup chime. A short or long whistling or whining sound before the pop or bang. A large amount of stinky electrical smoke (that could possibily be seen).

There can be a large POP or BANG sound. Sometimes if this happens while a user is using the computer: A whistling or whining sound coming from the computer. High demand activities (especially GPU related) could over-stress a weak/old power supply.and the computer suddenly shuts off. Sort of similar to what happens with trying to start a car in cold weather with a weak battery. Finally one attempt "catches".and it starts up. Maybe the computer needs multiple attempts to start up. Intermittent cold startup's (versus sleep). Signs I can think of that could indicate a weak or failing power supply could be:

I would say not quite as easy as in older desktop Mac Pro models.where there are more parts that can be upgraded (PCI expansion cards, lots of RAM, extra hard drives).all of which can put extra demand on the power supply.
